Bye Bye, Cat Videos: YouTube App will no longer be a part of iOS with iOS 6.

In a move that most people probably saw coming, even if they wouldn’t admit it, Apple is dropping the standalone YouTube app that has been a part of iOS since the beginning.  Today’s release of iOS 6 beta 4 confirms it.  It should come as no surprise that the app would be departing, seeing as how Apple is breaking away from dependance on Google with it’s new Maps app.

Speaking to The Verge, Apple released this statement:

“Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store.”

It remains to be seen if the license for YouTube has also expired on Apple TV, which would seem a little off without the ability to watch cat videos or bootleg fireworks on your primary television.  However, as Apple mentioned, Google is reportedly working on it’s own app for YouTube that should show up in the App Store soon.  Keep it tuned here for more information as this issue comes to light.
