America’s favorite fake political pundit steps into the late night spotlight.
TMZ and Entertainment Weekly are both confirming what has been widely reported and suggested since David Letterman announced his retirement just a few days ago: Stephen Colbert is officially Letterman’s replacement.
CBS Corp. CEO Les Moonves and CBS Entertainment chairman both announced the decision a five-year deal had been reached with Colbert today.
“Stephen Colbert is one of the most inventive and respected forces on television,” Moonves said. “David Letterman’s legacy and accomplishments are an incredible source of pride for all of us here, and today’s announcement speaks to our commitment of upholding what he established for CBS in late night.”
Although no final date has been set, Letterman’s last late night is set for 2015.
I still prefer Fallon, but this makes me happy.
