Fantastic Beasts and…Eddie Redmayne?

Did Stephen Hawking beat Doctor Who….out for a role in JK Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts?

A while back we reported that Matt Smith was being looked at for the lead role in the Harry Potter spinoff film, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” Now, Deadline reports that actor Eddie Redmayne – best known for his Oscar winning turn as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything – has been offered the lead role. Redmayne and Warner Brothers studio are said to be in serious negotiations.

If he accepts, Redmayne will portray Newt Scamander, the film’s “magizoologist” in New York, set 70 years before the Harry Potter films.

How do you guys feel about this? Were you rooting for Matt Smith, or are you team Redmayne? Sound off in the comments below!
