On Christmas Day, 1996 I was introduced to the 3rd dimension of gaming when I received a Nintendo 64 with Super Mario 64. My friend (who had walked half a mile in the snow to play) and I experienced a new frontier in gaming for hours on end. SM64 was unlike anything we had ever played before and I think I’ll make it a point to play it this Christmas for old times sake. I can here that baby penguin calling my name now…
She-Ra: Princess of Power.
ALSO one year my GiGi wanted both my sister and me to have Cabbage Patch dolls. This was in like 1984 or 5 and Cabbage Patch dolls were reaching like Tickle Me Elmo status. We ended up going to some woman’s house to buy two dolls – I was all of 4 or 5 years old and I distinctly remember checking all of the markings to make sure she wasn’t swindling us with fake babies.
I received a Super Nintendo for Christmas when I was about 5 years old. That ended up being a bad winter and since the weather was so frightful and we didn’t have any place else to go, I just played Super Mario World nonstop. My first taste of gaming led me to play pretty much day and night. In fact, my mom joined in playing as the Luigi to my Mario, though I let her be Mario sometimes. I stayed up all night until I beat Bowser in record time.
My dad composed a poem consisting of clues for a scavenger hunt that led to cruise tickets. One of the clues was hidden in our vhs copy of Titanic…a disturbing choice in my opinion.
