As of this writing, central standard time, we are mere eight hours away from Diablo 3 hitting PC’s and effectively ending the rest of the week for tons of geeks across the country. I wager that this is easily the biggest PC launch of the year, or any platform for that matter, so ladies if you have a geektastic boyfriend or husband you may want to remind them to shower and eat for the next few days as battle.net has a way of causing people to forget that.
Also hitting shelves tonight is Max Payne 3, Rockstar’s followup to the series that effectively made bullet-time a staple of hardcore shooting games. This entrance in the series promises awesome multiplayer action and revamp of the shooting mechanics that certainly feel a little dated. There should be plenty of Rockstar polish and hey, maybe even a controversy or two.
Early reviews of Max Payne 3 seem pretty good so far, but expect the Geek’s take on the newest shoot-em up tomorrow during episode eight of the Just Us Geeks podcast. Everybody have fun tonight!
The problem is that Diablo III uses the Blizzard servers to authenticate your account, and no matter where you live, they won’t be up until 12:01a Pacific time. Even if you manage to get a midnight launch copy or a digital edition, there’s no hell-stomping joy until then. I think I feel a little bit slighted. I know it’s only two hours more, but I finished the Beta content in two hours. I’ve got Demons to kill, dangit!
