Hey! Don’t you get an attitude with me! Yeah, you’d better check out this week’s Movies You Had Not Seen But Should!
My Sassy Girl
Welcome back to for Movies You Had Not Seen But Should. For this week’s installment, we will look at the 2008 romantic comedy My Sassy Girl. The film stars Elisha Cuthbert and Jesse Bradford.
The story centers around Charlie Bellow (played by Bradford who has worked in such films as Presumed Innocent, Romeo + Juilet, Bring It On and the short film Marvel One Shot: Item 47). Charlie is a nice guy who is going to school in New York. His goal is to finish business school and get a managerial position at Tiller King, an agricultural company that his father works at as a maintenance mechanic.
After arriving in New York, he gets word that his cousin has passed away. As a way to get his mind off of that, his friend suggests playing a game where they say whether they would sleep with anyone they see sitting in the park. It was during this that Charile first sees Jordan (played by Cuthbert, best known for her role on the hit TV show 24). On his way to meet his aunt (who is trying to set him up on a date), Charlie sees Jordan at the subway stop. She is drunk and nearly falls off the platform. Charlie saves her and takes responsibility for getting her home.
This begins a relationship between the two. As Charlie gets to know Jordan better, he falls in love with her. At the same time, he has to deal with her wild and crazy personality that seems to come out at random times while they are out on dates. Through all the tough times, Charlie loves her though he does clash with her father, who believes that Charlie is the reason for Jordan acting the way she does. Then the two drift apart. Will they get back together? Why does Jordan act the way she does? Will Charlie learn the truth? You’ll have to watch to find out.
The film is a remake of a 2001 South Korean film (whose title is translated into English That Bizarre Girl). The film also stars Chris Sarandon, Tom Aldredge, Austin Basis and Joanna Gleason. It was released in theaters on June 4th, 2008 and DVD on August 26, 2008.
My Sassy Girl is available on DVD and Amazon Instant Streaming. It’s a fun little romantic comedy that has a serious side as well. If you’re looking for a good rom-com to check out, this is one that’ll be right up your alley. It’s a film that you may not have seen, but you should.
