How do you feel about spoilers and social media?

Should people refrain from posting or should we simply stay off of Facebook until we’re caught up with the rest of the world?

Some pretty major stuff went down on last night’s episode of Game of Thrones, and things got crazy on social media as people ran across major spoilers while scanning through their newsfeeds.  After several of his followers wanted Stephen King placed in a Twitter time-out for letting the cat out of the bag, he responded accordingly:

    I was one of those who “spoiled” it. My personal opinion
    Is that if it is going to upset you that bad to find out what happens before
    Watching the show, you should just stay off of social media. That’s what I would do AND have done in the past. It’s the only way to be safe. Take responsibility for yourself and don’t bite someone’s head off because they talked about the show on twitter or Facebook…

    I will not do this in the future but only due to the fact I got chewed out and received major backlash for it….which I thought was totally uncalled for. This is a TV show. Some people were acting like I killed their puppy.

    I think that people who watch the show want to talk to people who also enjoyed it and watched it. As someone who is always behind in everything except Once Upon a Time, its nice to mark them and not use spoilers as headlines but I think it is selfish to expect people to NOT talk about it.
