Ahead of today’s “major” announcement from Microsoft today there are lots of rumors circulating around the Internet; but there are several things we can already rule out.
First off, Microsoft’s announcement comes today at 3:30 PM Pacific Time (5:30 PM Central Time) well after the stock market has closed for the day. While this isn’t a tell-tale sign of bad things to come per say, it sure is an interesting move.
As we reported here late last week, it is widely believed we are going to see a tablet from Microsoft today. With Windows 8 releasing this fall, the tablet would more than likely be running Windows RT, a mobile version of the OS based on Windows 8.
Although in April Microsoft shelled out $300 million for a 17.6% stake in Barnes and Noble’s Nook, don’t expect to see anything other than software from the B&N division today. 2 months isn’t really an adequate amount of time to put together a tablet to take down the iPad….
We will keep you posted throughout the day as more information is released.
Also, make sure you check back with us as we’ll be live blogging the Microsoft event.
Microsoft has “events” now?
“and now the new thing that no one will want and will be discontinued in a year!”
@James – Josh here. Yes, they’re having “events” now. Although for me, it has to be pretty exciting to be classified as an “event”. While I tend to agree with you about the actual shelf life of a Microsoft tablet, I’m pretty interested to see what they come up with. Like Jared said in his post, Windows 8 is worth taking a look at, so I’m looking forward to seeing what they have for us.
And, Marty here….my expectations for this are pretty low, as I haven’t been excited for anything Microsoft related in years, and they are doing this after the stock market closes for the day, which pretty much says that don’t have much confidence in whatever it is, whether they’d admit it or not.
