Toku Tuesday (or Wednesday…) – Shout! Factory announces Super Sentai release!

2

Don’t miss this super Toku Tuesday (or Wednesday) with a major announcement from Shout! Fatory.

Super Sentai

You read that title right! Shout! Factory, the company famous for releasing American and Japanese Transformers, Power Rangers, and many other Saban Ameri-Toku shows on DVD announced earlier this year at Power Morphicon that they would be releasing an official subtitled release of Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, the show that was the basis for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season One.

Earlier this week, Brian Ward of Shout! released the cover artwork for the DVD set:

Zyu02

This is a momentous occasion for Tokusatsu fans outside of Japan. Normally we have to wait for a fansub group such as TV-Nihon or Over-Time to translate and subtitle the episodes and then release them for download via torrent. This release marks the first (and hopefully not the last) time that we will see subtitled Sentai in the United States at retail.
Sure, this release could possibly have happened as a last minute cash grab for MMPR fans, but if it means I can buy Gekiranger, Dekaranger, or Abaranger at Wal-Mart I’ll buy as much as I can! I do wish to note that a release date and price have not been set just yet. Stay tuned to Toku Tuesdays, though, because I will be sure to have an article ready when this set goes for pre-order.
