Don’t miss this look at a more collector-focused action figure of one of the most iconic Power Rangers!

TokuTuesday

Anyone ever wanted to own an action figure of your favorite Power Rangers character? Well, I have you covered! Bandai Tamashii Nations and Bluefin have been able to create amazing figures of various Toku and non-Toku characters. We’ll begin our look at the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Figuarts with the first one released: Green Ranger!

Somewhere on the box of every Figuart you will find the following: “S.H. Figuarts is a new standard figure series that incorporates the Bandai action figure ‘art’ under the theme ‘Pursuing character expression through humanoid action.’” Bandai really wanted to create collector-focused action figures that were highly detailed, super posable, and just overall amazing sculpts of the character it represents.

This figure in particular is made to represent Tommy Oliver’s first Ranger power, the Green Ranger of Mighty Morphin. Not only is it immensely accurate to the show, but it even comes with his Dragon Dagger and the Sword of Darkness from when he was under the spell of Rita. The detail is so great that the Morpher on his belt and the Dagger have the symbol of the Green Power Coin look just as they do on toys and in show footage. If there is any scene this suit was in that you wish to recreate, you pretty much can. With almost forty points of articulation, the possibilities are endless! He also includes five sets of molded hands, meaning ten hands total. Two of them are made specifically so he can hold the Dagger to his mouthplate on the helmet to summon the Dragonzord. The sheath on the side of his belt can even hold the Dragon Dagger when you just want him to fight various toys on the shelf. Explaining all of this is nothing if I don’t actually show it off, so enjoy some photos taken by Den-O of TokuNation.com!

As I have said before, MMPR Season One was based off of Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger. These figures are made by Bandai of Japan, so any Ranger Figuart has a Japanese version. There are no differences aside from a couple of accessories and the box art. Bluefin Distributions has released these in Mighty Morphin style packaging, separating them from the Zyuranger releases. The photos shown are of the Zyuranger Dragon Ranger release. As you can see, it is still very much a nice representation of the Green Ranger. If you decide to buy it, here are the packaging differences: on the left is the Japanese Dragon Ranger release, while on the right is the American Green Ranger release.

The Japanese release can be found on various sites that sell Japanese products, or from stores based in Japan that you can find online (such as CS Toys, AmiAmi, and Mandarake). The American release can be found anywhere where Bluefin distributes Tamashii products (such as Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble bookstores, and certain comic shops that carry these products). There are a few reasons that I personally recommend the Japanese version if you wish to track it down. The US release is actually more expensive now than it was when it first came out. The Japanese release is still around its retail price point, not factoring in shipping from Japanese web stores. (I have bought from Japan a lot, and I can say that the shipping is not that bad most of the time.) Another reason to get the Japanese release is that if you are a more avid Sentai fan and have heard of Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger, there are two effect parts with Dragon Ranger to recreate a scene from its second season. If you want the US release so even the box is Power Rangers, be aware that the popularity of this character and the fact that it has been released for over a year now have made its price go up a lot (from a $40 original price point to $125 on Amazon.com from Bandai Tamashii). It is a great figure regardless, and if you are a Power Rangers or Zyuranger fan, this is a must own collector’s item!
