Utopia: Cancelled

Fox has pulled the plug on it’s social experiment/reality show.

Utopia Cancelled

Even though I sang the praises of Fox’s boldest reality show in years, the plug has been pulled on Utopia.

The show never really made an impact on viewers, and just never found the controversy or momentum to get going. Viewership continued to drop after the premiere, and Fox even went so far as to move the unscripted reality series to Friday nights, where it still didn’t perform.

The ultimate losers in this whole process are the Utopians, the group of people who agreed to give up one year of their lives for this social experiment. If you’ve followed along, you’ve had the opportunity to watch live streams of the Utopians via their website, and connect with them socially. Fox will begin shutting down the live streams today, and the Utopians will be sent home.

Utopia was a bold idea, and one that I’ll miss personally, and even though the Utopians seemed to be on the right track to survive and prosper, Utopia is over.

Fox will air MasterChef Junior reruns in it’s Friday timeslot.

Will you miss Utopia? We want your feedback as to why this show didn’t work, who your favorite Utopian was, and if you think this is a concept worth reviving at some point: let us know!
