Episode 181: 9/11

1

This week’s episode offers a time of reflection, and one that we feel was incredibly important for us talk about. Join us as we remember the events of 9/11.

Yes, this is a serious episode. Before we begin, here’s a note from Josh:

To all of our friends and listeners, we hope that this episode finds you well. When we decided to talk about 9/11 we were pretty hesitant to even broach the subject, much less take a look back to where we were, and relive the events of that day, and the days that followed. I’m incredibly aware that out of all of our listeners, math just tells me that there will be a handful of you that were directly impacted by the events that took place on 9/11. We remember you and your families most of all on this day, and we know that this episode may or may not be appropriate for you. Our intention is not to offend, or cause any pain, but to simply remind ourselves that we really never should forget. James makes a great point during the episode as he recalls how every single American felt on 9/12; that feeling of loss, hurt, and an overwhelming sense of togetherness. 9/12 is just as important as 9/11; the world changed forever, and black and white issues turned to grey, but we were one nation for the first time in a very long time.

I also must let you know that this episode does not meet my quality standards for JustUs Geeks, as we experienced some technical difficulties during the first part of the show that we didn’t discover until twenty or so minutes into our recording. Normally, I’d have made the decision to scratch the regular show, and you probably would have gotten Extra Geeky as the featured episode, but I felt that this episode was far too important to just scrap.

Will it sound great? No, and I take full responsibility for the issue (which you’ll hear more about on Extra Geeky #6 on Tuesday), but I want you to hear this episode anyway; it’s worth it for the stories, the conversation, and the remembrance.

This really is the most serious show we’ve ever done, and if the subject matter is uncomfortable for you, please know that our only intention was to reflect and remember. I deeply hope that you enjoy this episode. If you have any comments outside of anything appropriate for social media, please contact me by email: josh@justusgeeks.com. We’ll resume our typical geekiness this week on Extra Geeky; we hope you’ll check it out.

Thank you for the opportunity to even talk about this subject. We feel like we know our audience well enough that an episode with this weight might be good for some of you, and we hope you’ll share your stories of remembrance with us on social media and the comments below.

You should never forget; for the people that we lost on that day, the people who sacrificed themselves so that others could live, and for those that we have lost in the days, weeks, and years after 9/11 are the reasons we will always remember.

We hope that you enjoy this episode.
