Here’s a great list from Corey Hannah about what you should pick up for Record Store Day 2014!
It’s Record Store Day! If you are lucky enough to still have a locally-owned record store in your city, please go and support them by purchasing some great vinyl that is being released today for this special occasion. Not all stores will have everything that is available and quantities are limited, so get there early.
Here are five records that I recommend you pick up:
The Civil Wars – “Live at Eddie’s Attic” 12 ‘’ vinyl: This was originally released online as a free download way back in the Myspace days. These nine songs were recorded live and released before the band had a proper studio recording.
The Cure/Dinosaur Jr. – “Just Like Heaven” (Side by Side series) 7’’ vinyl : There have been some great Side by Side releases on RSD for the last few years, and this will definitely be one of them. The Side By Side series pairs an original and cover version of the same song. Should I admit publicly that I heard the Dinosaur Jr. cover before I heard the original version by The Cure? What can I say? I wasn’t super familiar with The Cure back when everybody was crazy about them, but I definitely grew to love their original version of this song.
Drive-By Truckers – “Dragon Pants EP” 10’’ vinyl : This is a collection of B-sides and outtakes from the sessions that made up the recently released “English Oceans” album. There’s a little bit of comedy gold in the Mike Cooley penned “Trying to Be the Boss (On a Beaver Brown Budget)”.
Nirvana – “Pennyroyal Tea/I Hate Myself and Want To Die” 7’’ vinyl : Do I really need to give you a reason to add more Nirvana to your collection?
The Muppet Movie Soundtrack 12’’ vinyl : Don’t try to pretend that you don’t know all of the words to “The Rainbow Connection”. You can own this soundtrack on vinyl for the first time in 35 years. Get it while you can.
