Sometimes you just want to watch a creepy movie.
I get like that a lot – psychological thrillers and dark dramas are my absolute favorite – and recently I stumbled upon We Are What We Are. I was intrigued.
We Are What We Are premiered at Sundance in January of 2013 and stars Bill Sage, Ambyr Childers, and Julia Garner. It was not a film I remembered being in wide release, which is I guess why I missed it.
Without spoiling the entire movie, I’ll say that it opens with tons of questions and just piles more on in a seemingly endless pile – until the middle or so, when everything starts making sense.
There are ancient rituals, family obligations, all kinds of bizarre surprises – and I guess all those blended well for me, because I really ended up liking this film.
If you aren’t skittish and you like a psychological thriller that can be both gruesome and kind of weirdly sweet, then you should definitely watch this movie.
For a random pick, it turned out to be one I completely enjoyed.
