The new Ninja Turtles movie has been put on hold for at least 10 weeks, staff has been laid off, and the release date has been pushed back until 2014, according to staff at the Hollywood Reporter.

The new film, being produced by Michael Bay‘s outfit Platinum Dunes, has had a rocky road on its journey to the big screen. The movie incited fanboy wrath when it was announced by Bay that the Turtles would be aliens in his adaptation. Apparently script problems have led to the majority of the pre-production staff being laid off, being told that work has been frozen indefinitely. The release date has been moved from December 2013, to May 2014.

The announcement follows on the heels of two other Paramount delays: G.I. Joe: Retribution and Brad Pitt’s World War Z.

Hopefully the people in charge of the movie will come to their senses and deliver a Ninja Turtles movie that is more in line with what the fans are wanting.
