Be kind rewind with us this week as we throw it back to the days of the movie rental store in this week’s podcast.
Long gone are the days of VHS rentals and most movie rental stores in general. As has been mentioned previously on the show, our hometown is home to one of the very last Blockbuster retail stores in existence. In this week’s episode the Geeks are joined by former long-time Blockbuster employee, and long-time friend of the show, Eric Plunk. Eric is on-hand to lend his thoughts about the movie rental giant, the decline of the industry, and to collect all of those late fees.
The podcast is kickstarted this week by another Reverse Tweet The Geeks. This week’s question is this: Were you actually kind? Did you rewind? There were lots of great answers to our Tweet The Geeks from friends on Periscope, so join the conversation and let us know your answers!
Don’t miss the conversation in the first half of the show! Some of the highlights include:
- Favorite movie rental experiences!
- What happened to kill the retail movie rental business?
- The largest late fee ever to be paid is revealed by Eric!
- A crazy realization: Blockbuster is now your local independent movie rental destination.
Lots of great conversation in the first half of the show, as well as some discussion about one of our favorite local independent movie rental/record stores: Top Shelf Records.
We did something new with the break this week! Our very good friends Tim and Carson from the I Heard That Was Good podcast were awesome enough to record a mini-sode for us about some of their favorite movie rental experiences. We give you just a sample during the break, and we’ll release the full mini-sode on Monday! Do us, and yourself, a favor by going to download the latest episode of their show on iTunes, leave them a great review, and let them know you came from The Geeks!
The Geeks round out the episode by discussing a favorite film, Be Kind Rewind, and talk about sweded films! Have you ever sweded a film? Leave us your sweded film, and we’ll feature you, or your favorite, on the website soon. Be on the look out for a swede or two from us over at YouTube.
We also broadcast our show on Periscope! Are you using Periscope? Let us know!
